Teaching fingerstyle guitar is my specialty, but sometimes people ask if I teach total beginners too. The answer is, absolutely! It’s a privilege to get somebody’s musicianship off on the right foot, developing skills for making music and for learning, and making it fun the way it should be.

I’m sometimes asked also if I teach kids, and again, I’m thrilled to do that! Kids over 8 are welcome to come for lessons. As a matter of fact, I’ve introduced special 45-minute lessons just for kids and youth up to age 12. Kids in this age range are still more than welcome to enjoy hour-long lessons like my adult students, but this option is especially useful for some younger players who tend not to have as many questions, and who will benefit more from practicing basic skills on their own than from sitting with me to refine things for another 15 minutes. It’s also helpful for kids who have become so used to the rhythm of a typical school day that by the end of about 45 minutes, they expect to be changing activities, regardless of what they’re doing!
